Why pay more than necessary?

Paying less is simple. Learn to:

  1. Shop around (compare prices before commiting to a purchase), and
  2. Ask for discounts. (Use this phrase: “Is that your best price?”)

Why doesn’t everyone get into the habit? The answer is a combination of laziness and fear, which affects us all. Our natural tendency is to be too lazy to do the work of researching prices, and too afraid of rejection to ask for a lower price.

To overcome these negative emotions people need motivation. Desperation and necessity will do it. How successful you will become at developing, and sustaining, the practice of finding out what things really are worth and getting skillful at getting the best price will relate directly to the strength of your reasons, your objectives, your goals or your dreams.

Determined people develop new habits. And good habits carry you. They are automatic. They are stress-free. The only part that is hard is getting started. And the most important aspect of getting started is knowing why you need to do this, knowing what you want to accomplish.

As someone trying to get a good price the problem is information. Sellers of houses, cars, insurance, computers, cameras, appliances, furniture etc know all about the market and what their competitors are selling for. Buyers used to have to guess which was a huge disadvantage. The other problem has been untrustworthy businesses. All businesses say they give you the best deal and are reliable. Talks cheap. The internet has changed all that. I can find out so much on the net and businesses have to watch their reputation too. Word spreads. Good site by the way.
